Did you love the two-into-one freestyle braid from a while back? Rhetorical question, because duh you loved it. Anyway, this week on The Braid Up, we’re switching it a up a little and giving you a remix. Our hair braider extraordinaire, Stasha Harris, shows you exactly how to whip up this gorgeous butterfly braid. You’re going to love it.
1. Braiding-hair extensions are a must for this look. Even if you don’t think you need them, trust, you do. They’re the only way to give your butterfly braid major length and volume.
2. Start by creating an off-center part with a rat-tail comb. A butterfly braid is made up of two large braids on each side of of your head that feed into one single braid in the back of your head. Once you create the off-center part, feed-in braiding hair to the right side of your head and continue braiding. Leave the braid unfinished, repeat the previous steps on the left side of your head, and then bring the two braids together once you reach the nape of your neck.
3. Stock up on edge control. It’s going to be your holy-grail product while you braid, and you’re going to need it after you’re done braiding to keep your hair looking fresh. It’ll keep your edges laid and your parts slick.
4. Keep your style smooth with a leave-in conditioner spray. Spritz one on before you go to bed at night, then wrap your hair with a silk or satin scarf to keep frizz and flyaways in check.
Before you run to the salon, make sure to watch the video first to see the butterfly braid in action!
